China, Malaysia and Mexico accepted the most semiconductor shipments from the United States while American exports are fastest-growing in Portugal, Denmark and Colombia.

Used to make consumer electronics including computers, digital audio players and mobile phones, USA-exported semiconductors generated US$50.2 billion in sales last year.

Overall global exports of semiconductors from the United States fell by 4.3% in 2007, a reflection of the spending slowdown in consumer electronic purchases worldwide.

Semiconductors represented 4.3% of the total value of American shipments last year, more than any other product category including civilian aircraft and passenger cars.
